SAHHARA – St. Ann’s Helping Hands and Reaching Arms

The Outreach  Committee

2020-21

SAHHARA (St.Ann’s Helping Hands & Reaching Arms ) is an outreach program  for students to understand the communities around them, identify themselves with its aspirations, needs, problems, resources and  to reach out with a helping hand.

Over the years the involvement, commitment, the range of activities have grown exponentially with club such as  Rotaract club of St.Ann’s College  under the umbrella of SAHHARA. Focus areas of health, education, empowerment of women, environment and leadership development have been identified apart from other spheres of social service. Activities are planned and executed with participation from staff and students. The schedule of activities has been systematized throughout the academic year in such a way that a sizeable number of undergraduate students with staff advisors, reach out to the community-lending a helping hand in their own small ways.

True to our motto, Heart to God, Hand to man we are striving to continue our service to the community with increased efforts so as to reach out to a larger group.

Leadership Workshop was organized to Rotaractors as part of LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT   in them on Topics –CommunityService by Rtn.Jawahar& Interpersonal Skills by Rtr.Suboth on 9th July.

Rotaractors attended the District training assembly organized by Rotaract Dist 3150,Rotary International which focused on Role & Responsibilities of Rotaractors followed by the installation ceremony of New age engineers on 19th July.

Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College organised installation ceremony for the cabinet members-2015-16 on 23rdJuly.Others clubs were also invited- St.Peter’s club, GNITS, Sunrise club, New age engineers.Chief guest was  Rtn.Kapil, President RCHC& Special guests were Vijay Devarakonda&Sudhakarkomukola

First Sunday of August is Friendship Day and at St Ann’s College it is Green Greeting Day. Green Greeting is a signature programme of Rotaract Club of St. Ann’s. Students of the college are encouraged to gift saplings to their friends instead of gifting other gifts like friendship bands etc.    The message of gifting sampling wasNURTURE FRIENDSHIP; WATCH IT GROW.Rotaract Club organized this programme in the college.

On  2nd August2015 15 rotaractors  attended the installation ceremony of Rotaract Club of Sunrise & took part in the Swachh Bharath campaign on the same day.

 

On 6th August 2015,rotaractors visited KMIT School, Narayanguda to plant saplings so as to spread awareness on the importance of a green environment and Completed the mission successfully under the  supervision of  the Prinicipal of the school Mrs.A Jaya.

15th August was a special day for Rotaractors as they celebrated Independence Day with Zilla Parishad High School children of Bakaram village along with Rotarians of Rotary clubof Hyderabad Central, RI Dist 3150. They helped children to understand real meaning of Independence and their responsibilities as citizens of India. Flags and sweets were distributed by Volunteers. Cultural  programmes were conducted by stubent volunteers. This celebration of National Day in ZPHS marked the spirit of Patriotism.

As part of developing network with other rotarct clubs of Rotaract Dist 3150,around 15 voluntees attended the installation ceremony of  G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology on 22nd August 2015.

Outreach volunteers carried out Teachers Day Celebrations in our campus to greet & Salute their teachers for their efforts & dedication in field of Education.Hand-made greeting cards,bookmarks were prepared by students and presented to their teachers to thank them for mentoring.

25 Student volunteers visited Radha Kishan Homes for girls on 10th September 2015 which had a Strength of about 200 Girls.Volunteersintereacted with the girls, played games with them and saw that children enjoyed themselves very well.

To build the capacity of students volunteers to start and run a new business,exhibit entrepreneurial behaviour for business success,Rotaractors participated in  “Entrepreneurship-The New Buzzword” organized by Institute of Hotel Management In collaboration with Barathiyayuva Shakti trust on 18th Sep 2015.        

A seminar was organized on 24th September on Rotary India Literacy Mission as September month being Basic Education & Literacy Month in Rotary Calendar.Speaker was Rtn. Harihara Prasad, Rotary Club of Hyderabad North.

 

Rotaractors of St.Ann’s college for women took an active participation in  PINK RIBBON WALK-2015, the signature annual event in Hyderabad's calendar 
 to create awareness on breast cancer to general public & salute breast cancer conquerors.This walk was organized by Dr.P. Raghu Ram, Director, KIMS- Usha Lakshmi Center for Breast Diseases at KBR Park, Banjara hills, Hyderabad at 6:30 a.m. on 11th  of October, 2015.

Outreach volunteers participated in Disability Awareness Walk  organised by VikalangulaPilupuVedika on 3rd December 2015 near Peoples Plaza, Necklace Road to support the diabled&  aimed at implementation of rights of the diabled.

Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College organized Leadership Conclave 2015 in collaboration with Rotaract Dist 3150 on 5thDecember  2015 at St.Ann’s College for Women.It was the annual flagship program of Rotaract South Asia MDIO which aimed to endow Rotaractors and students with the opportunity to interact with eminent leaders of corporate, industry and society. conclave was designed and organized in perspective to cater support for rotaractors career, professionalism & leadership enhancement.Sessions on Leadership in Action,ExtraordinaryLeadership,Rotaract-Discover the new world of service,Nuts& Bolts for Building your career,You are the Key-It’s time for Action were conducted in this one day leadership conclave.The conclave was productive in guiding the students to be an able and better leader. It also opened up lots of oppurtunities to intern in reputed companies and firms.

 

 

2014-15

It was a program where rotaract clubs of district 3150 organized in collaboration with Srushti Organization-An NGO where study kits were distributed to underprivileged school children of government schools. Rotaractors of our club participated actively and collected funds for this cause.

Rotaractors attended District Awards Program where awards are given to Clubs who have actively engaged in a number of areas where their service has merit of recognition. Our club and rotaractors with active participation & meticulous execution of rotaract activities were recognized and awarded.

Rotaractors of Rotaract club of St.Anns have conducted an orientation program for first years about SAHHARA. They shared their experiences and motivated the first year to join rotaract.This was a motivation seminar for the fresher's to get into Rotaract movement.

Rotaractors actively volunteered for sponsor club-Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central installation ceremony for year 2014-15 where Rtn.MVR Mohan was installed as new president of the year along with his team at Hotel- “Purple Leaf”.

Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College has hosted and took part in organizing Rotaract District 3150  Installation ceremony. Chief guest for the day was Rtn.VasudevMalladi (District Governor) & Special guest was Mr.AkhilAkkineni (Film actor).Rotarains&Rotaractors of other clubs attended the programme.

Inner Wheel is one of the largest women’s service voluntary organization in the world. Rotaractors have attended the installation ceremony of our Inner wheel club in the month of July.

Public Awareness Programme was conducted to bring enhanced focus on the disease Hepatitis on WORLD HEPATITIS DAY.NIMS HOSPITAL organized Hepatitis Awareness Walk in this regard.Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College was also invited and rotaract volunteers took active participation in this event.

Volunteers brought the saplings and sold them in the college. Girls bought them and presented as a token of friendship to each other. The message of gifting sampling was NURTURE FRIENDSHIP; WATCH IT GROW. Rotaract Club organized this programme in the college .

Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central conducted an orientation for the Hotel Management students to educate them about Rotaract which was been held at Institute of Hotel Management, VidyanagarHyderabad.ThreeRotaractors have attended and joined the Rotarians to share their own experiences in Rotaract.The Orientation was a success and  RAC IHM is the sister club of RAC St.Ann’s.

Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s college in collaboration with Rotaract Clubs of Sunrise &Nizam College and supported by Rotaract District 3150, organized "Gratuliere-A Token of Honor” on the occasion of Teachers Day. All the lecturers who have supported the rotaractors in the journey of Rotaract were felicitated. The event was held at Nizam College, on September 5th,2014.

Rotaractors of our club were part of Joy of Giving programme organized in the month of October by the Rotaract District 3150 at Narayanammacollege along with other Rotaract clubs in the district. Cultural & lot of fun-filled activities were planned for Children from three different Orphanages. The day was filled with games, dance shows, painting competitions for the children. Happiness on each child’s face was treat to all the rotaractors at the end of day.

Rotaractors took an opportunity of presenting the work done by their team for the quarterly period to the Rotarians of our parent club-Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central at Golkonda Hotel.

This walk was organized by Dr.P. Raghu Ram, Director, KIMS- Usha Lakshmi Center for Breast Diseases at KBR Park, Banjara hills, Hyderabad at 6:30 a.m. on 12th  of October, 2014 to create Awareness on Breast Cancer.Rotaractors of St.Ann’s college for women  took an active participation in this event to create awareness on breast cancer to general public.

“Walk for Blind” organized on the occasion of World White Cane Day Golden Day Celebrations was initiated by STARS NGO  on 15th Oct 2014 and a total of 20 students volunteered from Rotaract Club of St. Ann's College to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind.

 This program was hosted and organized by Apollo Hospitals. Rotaractors participated in debate Competition conducted on this topic and gained knowledge on breast cancer.

On the occasion of Diwali few Rotaractors in collaborations with STARS foundation celebrated Diwali with four different Orphanage children at four different places in and around the city.

These volunteers started their celebrations since morning till evening which was a happy and book marked day for them. Kids were gifted with few goodies and sweets. Later they had fun burning up the crackers with the volunteers.

Rotaractors volunteered and helping in organizing Vocational Award Nite of Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central held at GolkondaHotel.There were four awardees for the night. Each of them were felicitated by the chief guest M.DayaSagar for their excellent output for the society.

Children’s Day was celebrated at Keshav Memorial School,Narayanguda.There were few competitions held for the children and Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College distributed few stationery kits for the selective students in the school.

Swatch Bharat is a national level campaign by the Government of India.  Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s in collaboration with sponsor club RCHC carried out this program in the month of November at NiloferHospital.Rotarians and Rotaractors actively took part in cleaning and planting up few saplings in and around the Hospital.

Twin City Regional Meet is an event organized every year where all rotaract clubs of the district present their report about the activities carried out by each and every club.Rotarctors attended and Rtr Sneha presented the report of our club at Narayanamma College of Science & Technology on 21stdec 2014.

Two day conference titled Sammelanem was organized by District Rotaract on 31st Jan & 1st Feb 2015 at Family World, Begumpet.Rotarcators were active volunteers in different committees of the event. Vocational excellence awards for people in different fields,culturalnight,presentations by district council and lectures by Rotarians were the highlights  of this program.Rotaractors understood the role of rotaract in world and and got an insight about future projects of Rotary International which are to be taken ahead.       

For their meticulous execution of Rotaract activities Rtr.Sneha and Rtr.Rama were appointed as District Council Members for 2014-15.Rtr.Sneha was appointed as District Regional Secretary for Twin Cities &Rtr.Rama  as District Treasurer.

 Green Greeting program is eventually organized every year in the month of August on the eve of Friendship Day. Green Greeting Program is about exchanging saplings with friends instead of gifting Friendship Bands & other gifts. We believe that as the Sapling grows, our friendship grows stronger. Rotaractors from other clubs and Inner Wheel of Rotary club of Hyderabad Central have also participated in Green Greeting Program. 25 rotaractors from Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College for Women have volunteered. Students of St.Ann’s College and Other Rotaractors have given good response to the program and fulfilled the purpose of the program.This initiative by Rotaract Club is to increase green coverage of city and create awareness on environment protection.      

Rotaractors of St.Ann’s College for women along with Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central (Sponsor Club) have celebrated Independence Day with the Government School Children of Bakaram Village. The newly elected Cabinet members for the year 2013-2014 were installed on November 6th, 2013. The installation officer was IPDRR ThansenPaandi and the chief guest for the program was Rtn.Venkat President of Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central. Members who have joined Rotaract club of St.Ann’s have taken Rotaract Oath.

Rotarians of Rotary club of Hyderabad central have made their gracious presence and Rotaractors from other clubs have also participated on this occasion.

Rotaract club of St.Ann’s College in collaboration with Rotaract Dist 3150 organized one day “LEADERSHIP CONCLAVE 2013” on 14th December at St.Ann’s College for women.  Rotaract Leadership Conclave is annual flagship program of Rotaract South Asia MDIO aiming to endow Rotaractors and students with the opportunity to interact with eminent leaders of corporate, industry and society. It brings together the best minds at the leading edge of industry, policy and academics through focused and interactive debates.

Theme of Rotaract Leadership Conclave 2013 is “Leading through Innovation”.

Organizing such events by Rotaractors of the college always helps them to build their leadership qualities and it broadens the horizons to plan their future path in more organized way. Over 150 delegates participated in the event from various rotaract clubs.

This was organized by Marg foundation at Yousufguda stadium from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Jan  4th 2014.Rotaractors of Rotaract club of St.Ann’s college have volunteered for the event. The purpose of Organizing Spreading Smiles was to give orphan children a happy day. And there were many games and food stalls for the children and Gifts were also distributed. The event was organized for 500 orphan children where 15 orphanages participated.  The chief guests for the day were DGP Prasad Rao, Actors Abhijith, Vasu.

I.Leadership Development:

One day leadership Workshop was organized for rotaractors by District Rotary.  . St.Anns College Rotaract Club was awarded with Best Professional Service Project for conducting RYLA in this district assembly.      

 The newly elected board members were installed by the dignitaries of our parent rotary club 3150.         

This training programme was organized by District Council to get complete overview about Rotaract to all the newly elected cabinet members and inducted rotaractors.

 Workshop titled 'LEADERSHIP IN ACTION' was organised by the Rotaract club of Bhagyanagar. Rotaracters of ST.ANNS attended the workshop.The workshop was aimed at developing the leadership skills among the rotaractors.                     

Rtr. Amara Rasheed gave a  talk on ‘Rotaract’ to the newly inducted rotaractors of SaiVigyan College. She shared her experiences as a rotaractor and gave them an idea on how they could conduct club activities successfully.

District Rotaract organized regional meet on 23rd December at Mahboob College, Secunderabad.  Around 17 rotaract clubs participated where they also had to make presentation of their activities. Rotaractors of our club also participated and our presentation was judged as “Best Presentation”.

Renaissance, the 44th Annual Rotaract District Conference was held on 2nd & 3rd February, 2013 at Athidi Hotel, Miyapur, Hyderabad. Andhra Pradesh. India.  

This prestigious event of Rotaract District 3150 witnessed a total of 170 Active Rotaractors.  Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College took active participation in organizing this event and for their contribution they were recognized as “Best Supporting Rotaract Club”. Participation in cultural programs was also a highlight.        

II.Education:

Rotaractors visited Govt. School at Attapur on 23rd July 2012, along with the Dept. of Library Sciences.   Dictionaries were distributed among the students to increase communication skills among students.

Every year 15th August is a special day for the volunteers of SAHHARA as they celebrate Independence Day with Zilla Parishad High School children. Students visited   Bakaram village along with Rotarians of   Rotary clubof Hyderabad Central, RI Dist 3150.   Flags and sweets were distributed by Volunteers. Many entertainment programmes were conducted.  

Rotaractors participated in the peace rally organized by “Young People for Life India” on International Girls’ Day. Its movement to speak out against gender bias and advocate for girls rights in schools.

III.Health Care:

Public Awareness Programme is conducted to bring enhanced focus on the disease Hepatitis on WORLD HEPATITIS DAY. Dept of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of CARE HOSPITAL along with other participants from corporate and community sector including media and NGO’s conducted this activity in form of 5km Marathon at Peoples Plaza. Rotaract Club of St.Ann’s College was also invited and rotaract volunteers took active participation in this event.

ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan organised a Memory walk at Necklace road on the occasion of World AlzheimersDay  It was also a fund raising event for Dementia Research, care and support. The theme for the Memory walk was “Remembering those who cannot remember”. Rotaractors of St.Anns participated in the walk. 

An awareness programme was conducted by the rotaract club of ST.ANNS on eve of WORLD AIDS DAY in ZILLA PARISHAD HIGH SCHOOL, GUDDIMALKAPUR. A documentary was screened for the students to make them aware of the causes of AIDS. .The programme created awareness among the students and also the myths and facts about AIDS were explained to the students.                                         

Rotaractors participated in Pulse polio campaign,one of major initiative of Rotary held on 20th January 2012 at Holy Mary School, Gudimalkapur. They administered polio drops to children below 5 years of age. Camp was sponsored by Rotary Club of Hyderabad Central.

Rotaractors in association with RCHC took up collaborative project with Bharat Stem cell Registry to promote awareness on stem cell significance and donation to individuals. Awareness Campaigns were conducted in various hospitals of twin cities like Apollo Hospitals,MNJ Cancer Hospital,GlobalHospitals,MedwinHospitals,Kamineni Hospitals and also few educational institutions like Shadan Degree College etc.

IV.Environmental Protection & Awareness

Rotaract Club along with Eco Club organized this programme in the college. This initiative received appreciation through news paper article in local news papers like Eenadu, Sakshi.

In connection with the Joy of Giving week, Rotaractors visited the orphanage at Kondapur, CHEERS Foundation. They gave clothes, daily requirements (toothpaste, tooth brushes, soaps, detergents) and eatables to the children present at the orphanage.

Peter  OHanlon,CEO,Australian College of Business management has visited our Rotaract club and addressed our rotaractors about seeking admission in  academic programs in Australian Universities. He is keen in undertaking international consulting projects in India.
